Founded by David Stewart and Steve Paylor, dekn brings together over 60 years of combined engineering, manufacturing and joinery experience to create premium modular outdoor living products that homeowners can install themselves.
David has spent more than four decades designing products and manufacturing systems for some of the world's leading companies, including Toyota, Ferrari, Volvo, Caterpillar, Renault and BAE Systems. His engineering background underpins every dekn product, ensuring each system is strong, practical and designed for efficient assembly.
Steve is a time-served joiner who began his career while completing his apprenticeship at York College, working with established Yorkshire joinery manufacturers including Ciepley Joinery and Webster Joinery. Throughout his career he has specialised in the manufacture of bespoke staircases, traditional box sash windows, doors and high-quality timber joinery. In 2019, he established S Paylor Joinery, continuing his reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Together, David and Steve combine precision engineering with traditional woodworking expertise, creating modular decking, pergolas and outdoor structures that are both beautifully crafted and straightforward to assemble.
